Need

Modern laboratories and process environments require seamless coordination between analytical instruments, sample systems, and plant control systems. Traditional Chromatography Data Systems (CDS) such as Agilent OpenLAB or ChemStation were designed for laboratory operation—not for 24/7, process-connected analysis.

The Hermes Automation Platform solves this by integrating instruments, sample multiplexing systems, and data management tools into a unified automation engine. Hermes enables continuous, autonomous operation and real-time analytical feedback to process control systems without human intervention.

Qualification

Wasson-ECE Instrumentation has over three decades of experience designing automation and process analytical systems for Agilent-based gas chromatographs and custom-built Eclipse Process GCs. Hermes evolved from the proven WinIStatus automation framework, which has powered refinery and pipeline analytical systems worldwide since the 2000s.

Differentiation
  1. Modular Automation Engine: Hermes’ modular architecture allows operators to control multiple instruments, sampling systems, and devices through a single automation instance. Modules can be deployed across multiple machines, enabling both small-scale and enterprise installations.
  2. State-Machine Based Recipes: Unlike timed-event automation, Hermes executes Recipes as ordered state-machine tasks. Each task completes before the next begins, ensuring deterministic and error-tolerant execution for complex processes such as multi-stream sampling and synchronized GC analysis.
  3. Cross-Platform and Scalable Deployment: Hermes can run on a single workstation or across distributed infrastructure using Docker or Kubernetes. It integrates natively with OpenLAB CDS 2.x and other services through REST APIs, making it ideal for both laboratories and industrial networks.
